CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) -

In light of a recent shooting that injured one Carbondale police officer, Chief of Police Jeff Grubbs had a serious message at Tuesday's "Coffee With a Cop" event.

"Hey, we got this, it's gonna be okay," Grubbs said. "As tragic as what happened, we're gonna get him and we're gonna make sure we keep our community safe, and community policing is a big part of that."

This the reason why police met with community members at a downtown business Tuesday morning. Randy Mathis was one of those officers.

"We're available if you want to talk to us about what's going on in your neighborhood, great, if you just want to talk to us about anything at all that's what we're here for, we're here to just get back in touch with our citizenry."

It's an opportunity some in the community greatly appreciate.

"Well, you get to see your police officers in a little bit of a different setting different light," Lee Fronaburger said. "So you get to see their human side."
