BUTLER COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

A man is in custody after a series of hotel and gas station robberies in Butler County, Missouri.

According to Sheriff Mark Dobbs, Alexander Whisnant, 23, of Doniphan was arrested.

He is facing four counts of first degree robbery and four counts of first degree armed criminal action.

Dobbs said Whisnant is responsible for a second robbery at Motel 6 and Heartland Express.

He has also been linked to a robbery at Casey's General Store in Doniphan over the weekend.

Investigators said they believe he robbed Motel 6 on North Highway 67 on July 30.

The suspect came into the motel in an under armor sweatshirt pulled over his head.

He jumped over the counter when the person behind the counter had her back turned.

The victim told deputies he threatened her with a semi-automatic handgun and took about $200.

The suspect asked for bills only and no change.

According to the sheriff's department, the man told her to "be safe" and left.

Then, on August 7, a white man wearing all black clothes and a ski mask came into Holiday Inn at 2 a.m.

He took around $200 and again asked for bills and no change.

Investigators believe the robberies are connected.

The sheriff's department is working with the Poplar Bluff Police Department on the investigation.
