ZIEGLER, IL (KFVS) -

The City of Zeigler, Illinois now has a way to pay for a new medical clinic thanks to the generosity of a long-time resident’s heir.

Venita "Queenie" Georgieff passed away about a month ago after spending most of her life in the city.

Her family owned a small shop in the center of town, and she remained active in the community throughout her retirement.

After she passed, it was decided by her heir that $234,000 from her estate would be donated to the city.

The money will completely pay for repairs to a municipal building which will house a medical clinic and pharmacy.

“This will give us such a big boost,” finance commissioner Jim Flood said. “This is a way of keeping her name and that family’s name in our town forever. It’s a wonderful thing.”

The building that will be refurbished is the former Bank of America building on the Town Circle, and will be named the Dobry Municipal building, after Georgieff’s family.

A sum of $4,000 from the donation will pay for new computers at the city’s library.

The city has already signed a three year contract with an area doctor, and an open date is planned for March, 2017.

Some materials for the Dobry building rennovation are already on-hand, and construction will begin at 7 a.m. on August 10.
