CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) -

The Carbondale Police Department is alerting residents after they say someone was scammed through an Ebay post.

On July 23, an officer met with the victim of a theft.

The officer learned that the victim contacted the unknown suspect who posted an advertisement on Ebay to buy a motor vehicle.

The suspect allegedly told the victim that there would be fees to pay prior to the delivery of the motor vehicle. The victim was told to send a payment via money order, which the victim did.

Police say the victim then received two e-mails, which appeared to be from Ebay, thank the victim for the payment and then another indicating the delivery date of the car.

Prior to the delivery date, the suspect contacted the victim again, allegedly asking for another payment to be made.

The victim became suspicious, contacted Ebay and discovered the incident was a scam.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the City of Carbondale Police Department at 618-457-3200 or Crimestoppers at 618-549-COPS (2677).
