The Women’s Center plans to host its third annual "Back to School Bash" at the Eurma C Hayes Center in Carbondale, Illinois on Saturday, August 13.
At this event, backpacks and school supplies will be provided to more than 500 children from across southern Illinois.
On average, a backpack along with other school supplies costs more than $50 per child, creating a heavy burden for parents, especially those with multiple children.
The Women's Center's goal with this event is to help send children throughout southern Illinois to school fully prepared.
In addition to free school supplies, the "Back to School Bash" will also include free food, haircuts, dental exams, employment opportunities and kid friendly activities.
Donations for this event can be dropped off at The Women’s Center at 610 S Thompson St in Carbondale, or at the African American Museum in University Mall. Additionally, monetary donations for school supplies can be made at by clicking here.
