Shake, rattle, and roll: Magnitude 2.6 earthquake hits near East Prairie

Parts of southeast Missouri got a little shake early Tuesday around 4 a.m. when a magnitude 2.6 earthquake rocked the region.

According to the USGS, the quake was centered five miles west northwest of East Prairie and about seven miles southeast of Sikeston.

The USGS reports the earthquake hit relatively close to the surface at a depth of 2.7 miles.

The quake hit in an area that saw several earthquakes in similar size over the weekend. On Saturday, a 2.3 magnitude quake hit near Caruthersville and on Sunday, a 2.5 magnitude earthquake rattled near Tiptonville, TN.
