Heartland chiropractor in Rio to help US wrestling team

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

A Cape Girardeau, Missouri doctor is in Rio, Brazil to help the U.S. wrestling team.

Dr. Matt Uchtman with Elevation Health Care said the work he will be doing with the athletes is important.

"It, it's just crucial, because you know they, every inch matters," he said. "Every little thing that goes on from what they put in their bodies to how their body functions make such a different because at that level, it's just whatever edge they can get. And when they adjusted, it really just makes sure their body is functioning at 100 percent and that's really my job. It's just to help them remove anything that will keep them being at their potential, and making sure that when they step forward, that they're ready to go because they have been working their entire lives for this."

Uchtman works with the "Sports Performance Council" and after training, tests and interviews, he was selected to go to the Olympics with the wrestling team.

He said he will do whatever the team needs, including heading to the grocery store to make sure they maintain proper nutrition and weight.

Uchtman left on August 15 and will be in Brazil for nine days with the team.

He also said he's excited to be at the Olympics and isn't at all worried about the controversies surrounding this year's games.
