MALDEN, MO (KFVS) -

Family and friends gathered in Malden, Missouri on Sunday, August 7 to remember Detavian Richardson, who was killed in a shooting in August of 2014.

The event was in part a softball tournament and also a gathering to discuss gun violence in the community. Organizers gave kids who came school supplies and free food. Money raised went to a fund to help Richardson's kids. His family is also hoping this event raises awareness and pushes someone to come forward with information.

"I know there are people who know what happened and they have information just do the right thing, call the police, let somebody know so that we can get closure for our family," Renetha Booker, Richardson's mother, said.

Organizers said they will continue to have "Tay Day" in August and are already looking forward to next year.
