UNION CITY, TN (KFVS) -

The Union City Baptist Temple Church is rebuilding after a fire broke out on Sunday, August 7 and destroyed the church building.

Members of the church gathered to listen to scripture reading and speeches at the groundbreaking for their new building on Sunday March 26.

Members gathered together for church services at a different building after their church was destroyed.

The church had two other buildings that were not damaged by the fire.

Congregants held services in a gym in one of the separate buildings, where dozens came out to pray and sing together just hours after the devastating fire.

It has been close to nine months since the fire.

Crews were called out to a church on fire in Union City, Tennessee, according to Union City Fire Department Captain Karl Ullrich.

Fire crews arrived to Union City Baptist Temple on Longview Drive to find the church fully engulfed by flames around 7 a.m.

Crews were out on scene for hours putting out the fire but did salvage some church documents inside.

Another Union City firefighter said the entire roof collapsed due to the fire.

Ullrich said the fire started in the attic and spread from there.

Fire crews from Martin and Rives were also called out to the fire as part of mutual aid assistance.

Nobody was hurt in the fire.
