The Back to School Fest in Sikeston helped about 1,000 families get ready for the school year.

They had hundreds of volunteers help out, including Sikeston DPS Sgt. Scott Kim who helped with cutting hair.

Many churches from across Sikeston, Miner and the surrounding area pitching in donated items such as folders, crayons and an assortment of school supplies; all the necessary items for children to get children ready for their first day of school for this year.

Parents said it was helpful having the support from the community and easy on their wallets for those who are in need.

Parents and volunteers said they felt more relaxed knowing these children will be ready for school and have the necessary items to help them educate themselves.

School supplies weren't the only thing offered, however. Haircuts, health screenings, vision testing and more were given as well.
