First Alert Weather Outlook:

Friday will be steamy, and possibly stormy. Heat indexes for today could hit between 100-110. Then a front moving through starting this afternoon will kick up storms. Some of these could be strong with high winds, rain and lightning. FIRST ALERT: this weekend looks less hot and less humid.

Making Headlines:

Back to school blitz: KFVS12 is teaming up with the United Way, Walmart, and Withers Broadcasting for the annual Stuff the Bus event on Saturday. In coincides with Tax Free Weekend that will help you save some cash on those school supplies. 

Search is on: The Pope County, Illinois Sheriff's Department is asking for the public's help finding an escapee. According to Pope County Sheriff, Matthew C. Werner was supposed to return to the Saline County Jail in Harrisburg on Wednesday night after an approved furlough, but never came back.

Kicking it off: Preparations are under way for the annual Fancy Farm picnic. It serves as the the traditional kickoff of Kentucky's fall campaign season. This year though the state's two Democratic statewide officeholders - Attorney General Andy Beshear and Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes - are skipping Saturday's event in western Kentucky.
