CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Southeast Missouri State University is preparing for a new school year. Each year, a group of faculty members within the university's agriculture department meet to plan for the return of students.
Julie Kinkead of Cape Girardeau is among the group. In addition to her detailed plans for the upcoming year, she has one very critical key to ensure the team's success: her Hawaiian Bread Dip.
- 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese
- 1 (8 ounce) package sour cream
- 1 (4 ounce) can diced green chilies
- ½ cup chopped pecans
- 1 small jar of dried beef (diced)
- “Quite a few” onion flakes
- 2 Tablespoons melted butter
- 1 round loaf Hawaiian bread
Add cream cheese, sour cream, green chilies, chopped pecans, dried beef, and onion flakes to a medium size bowl.
Mix well and add melted butter, stirring until mostly smooth.
Refrigerate at least one hour. Dip can be served cold, or microwave to soften and serve warm.
Cut out a five to six-inch circle from the center of the Hawaiian loaf to create a bread bowl. Tear or cut removed bread into small pieces to scoop.
Spoon mixture into bread bowl.
