AURORA, KY (KFVS) -

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says demolition of the Old Eggners Ferry Bridge continues, although at a slower pace.

On Wednesday and Thursday, July 3-4, the contractor used cranes to remove Span A, or the short span on the west end of the old bridge, and Span F, or the short span on the east end of the old bridge.

According to KYTC, the tentative plan is to jackhammer or break Piers 3 and 4 to water level some time over the next week.

They say work has not started but is expected in the next few days.

The tentative plan is to drill and blast the piers below water level sometime between Aug. 8 and 26, with drilling and blasting possible sometime between Aug. 15 and Sept. 2 as weather permits.

Removal of the approach spans would continue until around Nov. 1 as weather permits.

On July 25, demolition crews blew up parts of the Old Eggners Ferry Bridge. A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet halted traffic on the New US 68/KY 80 Eggners Ferry Bridge so that the bridge could be imploded.
