CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

A Cape Girardeau woman is asking for the public’s help in finding a collector coin set stolen from her home last week.

Candice Evans said her family was out of town overnight on Friday, July 29 when someone broke in and burglarized the house in the 1300 block of Lexington Ave.

She said a number of items were taken, including several coin sets handed down by her grandfather after he passed away last November.

“When I was in high school, we collected them together,” Evans said.

The sets included hundreds of uncirculated presidential gold dollars and state’s quarters.

More than the coins’ value Evans said she is looking to get them back for their sentimental value.

"I'd give my last dime to have his possessions back,” she said. “He didn't have much to give us but this is something I could have passed down to our kids and his other great grandkids over time."

Cape Girardeau police are investigating. They say no arrests have been made at this time.

Evans said she is offering a reward for anyone with information on where the coins might be.
