MURPHYSBORO, IL (KFVS) -

Student registration has been rescheduled for a later date after the room of the Murphysboro High School auditorium collapsed on Monday, August 1.

According to Tony Wilson, principal at the high school, due to some occupancy timelines the high school is dealing with, plus ensuring the safety of their students, student registration has been pushed back from Monday, Aug. 8 to Wednesday through Friday, Aug. 10-12.

Classes begin on Aug. 17.

According to a school spokesperson, no one was hurt after the auditorium roof collapsed at Murphysboro High School.

The Murphysboro superintendent said as a result of the roof collapse, they are bringing in an architectural engineer to inspect the wall and framing around the building to make sure nothing else is susceptible after that collapse.

A construction company built a fence to keep people away from the area.

Sometime last week, the HVAC unit on the auditorium dropped about three feet which prompted school leaders to close the auditorium and call in architects.

The unit was removed and crews closed up the roof and added a pump to prevent water from puddling on it.

However, Monday morning's storm caused the roof to collapse.

School leaders say the building will be ready with a "partial occupancy" permit.
