Illinois ranks in top 20 for best school systems

School starts for a lot kids in just over a week.

As your child heads back to school, you might wonder whether your child is getting a quality education.

According to Wallet Hub, school systems vary from state to state.

Researchers found money doesn't always dictate quality.

Wallet Hub compared several key metrics like student to teacher ratio, drop out rate and safety rank.

The state with the best school system was Massachusetts.

According to Wallet Hub, the schools in Massachusetts are mixed when it comes to strength and expenditures for public elementary and secondary schools.

Illinois ranked number 13, the highest Heartland state.

This research showed Illinois has the highest average SAT score, a 600.7.

As for school systems in other Heartland states, Kentucky ranked number 17 and Missouri number 32.

Kentucky notably has low spending and a strong school systems, where has Missouri sees a mixture.

The state with the worst school systems, according to Wallet Hub's study, is Louisiana.
