DEXTER, MO (KFVS) -

In what has been some turbulent times for police, one Heartland community is planning a day to honor local law enforcement.

The city of Dexter, Missouri is organizing what it is calling Back the Blue day, Thursday, August 4 at the Hickory Log. Everything starts at noon.

Leaders say they want to show appreciation for local law enforcement by treating them to lunch as well as a show of support around town.

Local businesses will be displaying blue ribbons, the Dexter Boy Scouts will display flags around town and state representative Tia Hubrecht will be there for a special presentation.

Dexter police, the Stoddard County Sheriffs Department and local Highway Patrol troopers are all invited.
