Fire department burglarized, suspect arrested

A Kentucky man is behind bars for allegedly burglarizing the Lowes Fire Department.

According to Sheriff Dewayne Redmon, Fire Chief Steve Elliot called the sheriff's department on July 20 to report the burglary.

Chief Elliot said several items totalling more than $10,000 was missing.

An anonymous tip lead investigators to Henry Shuford, 33, of Elizabethtown who had allegedly been bragging about burglarizing the department.

Police in Elizabethtown made contact with Shuford who gave officers permission to search his home.

Sheriff Redmon said those officers found several of the stolen items in Shuford's home.

The investigation is ongoing as there are other reports of burglaries from other fire departments in Kentucky and other states.

Shuford faces a charge of 2nd degree burglary.
