DIXON, IL (KFVS) -

Police officers in Dixon, Ill. are serious about the heat that's gripping the Midwest right now.

So serious in fact that they decided to do something to cool off and get to have some fun in the process.

The department sent out a series of tweets asking parents to send them a private message with a picture of their "gladiators."

The officers then showed up and had a water gun fight with the kids!

They called it #OperationWaterGun.

The department tweeted about "Operation Water Gun" for most of the day on July 21.

The officers battled with seven groups of kids.

From the looks of the pictures and video, it sure looks like everyone had a great time!

In a post on the department's Facebook page, they said "We couldn't have had a better time bonding with our community and this was a great success! Due to that success, future events similar to this will be planned."
