(KFVS) - No matter how careful you are, microwave messes seem to happen.

A product called Angry Mama claims it can steam away cooked-on stains and odors in your microwave in minutes, but does it work?

Angry Mama has her work cut out for her with this week's tester.

"Things explode in here and I make popcorn and it gets greasy on the bottom," said Jean Cairns of Cape Girardeau. "It's just yucky."

Cairns said she has frequent microwave messes, and has a hard time cleaning the over-the-stove microwave.

"I'm a little vertically challenged so it's sometimes hard to clean,"  said Cairns.

The Angry Mama commercial claims the steam cleaner is the fastest, easiest way to loosen stubborn messes without scrubbing or using harsh chemicals.

Cairns found Angry Mama's instructions to be simple, but slightly strange.

The instructions say to remove Angry Mama's hair and head, fill the body with vinegar, water and lemon juice, and then replace hair and head parts.

The box further instructs the user to microwave Angry Mama for seven minutes on high.

Cairn's microwave has a maximum cooking time of six minutes, so for our test we had to let Angry Mama steam for six minutes and then immediately add an additional minute to complete the cook time.

When it was time to remove Angry Mama from the microwave, Cairns was pleased to learn that the product's "arms" remained cool although the body and head were scalding hot.

Once Angry Mama was safely removed, it was time for the moment of truth.

"I usually I have to scrub," said Cairns. "This is much easier."

After just a minute or two of wiping with the non-scrubbing side of the sponge most of the cooked-on food and grease grime was gone.

"I think some of my stains are permanent, but it's definitely better than it was, I can tell you that," said Cairns. "A lot easier to clean than just with a soapy sponge."

Cairns liked the fact that Angry Mama eliminated the need for harsh chemicals, but did not like that even with lemon juice, Angry Mama left her kitchen smelling strongly of vinegar.

Cairns gave Angry Mama Microwave Cleaner 3.5 stars on this Does It Work test.

We purchased the Angry Mama for this test at Walmart for $9.88.
