Murphysboro man leads police on chase, crashes into multiple cars

MURPHYSBORO, IL (KFVS) -

A Murphysboro man is facing multiple charges after leading police on a chase following a traffic stop.

The Murphysboro Police Department reports John Friedrich, 53, was pulled over at the intersection of north 10th St. and Walnut Street around 10:35 on Feb. 8.

Police say Friedrich led officers through one business parking lot and was involved in two separate traffic accidents, all while allegedly driving under the influence.

According to the Murphysboro Police Department, Friedrich also hit a police cruiser when he was trying to drive away from the second traffic crash.

At one time police clocked Friedrich traveling 60 mph in a 45 mph speed zone. A radar also tracked him going 70 mph in a 25 mph area.

During the incident, police say Friedrich caused significant damage to his vehicle and a local business.

Friedrich was taken to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

He was later booked at the Jackson County Jail.

Friedrich is facing the following charges:

  • Aggravated DUI

  • Aggravated fleeing/attempting to elude
  • 2 counts of failure to reduce speed/accident
