It is Friday, Feb. 5, 2016.

You can expect a clear, cold and frosty Friday morning. By lunchtime it will begin to warm up to near 40 degrees. This evening should prove to be a nice night to go out, however, you will still need that jacket. The weekend looks to be about the same as today, but FIRST ALERT we're tracking an arctic blast headed towards the Heartland next week.

Making Headlines:

Crime spree investigation: The search for a couple wanted in a multi-state crime spree, including the Heartland, is over. Police confirm Blake Fitzgerald was killed and Brittany Harper was wounded in the leg after a shootout with law enforcement in northwest Florida.

Early morning fire: A Scott County home is being considered a complete loss after it caught fire early Friday morning. No one was home at the time of the fire, and the cause remains unknown.

Assessing damage: Emergency personnel will begin conducting preliminary damage assessments in Alexander County on Friday after the New Year flood plagued the area. The information gathered by the damage assessment teams will be reviewed by state officials to determine if a request for federal disaster assistance is warranted.

Resources available: Laid off workers from Noranda Aluminum in New Madrid County will have the chance to learn about new career opportunities at a resource and job fair today. More than 50 employers will be on hand to receive resumes and talk with prospective applicants.
