Carbondale PD arrest two after shooting

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) -

The City of Carbondale Police Department is reporting that two men have been arrested after allegedly firing shots at each other on Tuesday, Feb. 2.

Officers said they responded reports of to two adults who were allegedly fighting near South Wall Street and East Cindy. Callers reported hearing multiple gunshots.

When officers arrived they found Michael P. Wooley, 32, who is homeless, and John T. McGrath, 26, of Carbondale, involved in a physical altercation.

Officers learned that during the altercation McGrath obtained and discharged a firearm. No one was injured and Wooley and McGrath were both arrested without incident.

When officers searched the two men, they found what they believed to be cocaine on Wooley and cannabis on McGrath.

Wooley was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon. McGrath was charged with reckless discharge of a firearm and possession of cannabis.

Both individuals were incarcerated at the Jackson County Jail.

The investigation into this incident is continuing.
