SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) - The Sikeston Department of Public Safety is reporting a father and son have been arrested on assault and armed criminal action charges.
On Tuesday, Feb 2, officers were dispatched to 105 Jaycee St. after receiving reports a man had been stabbed.
When authorities arrived at the house, they found James Applewhite, Jr., 30, and discovered he had several lacerations just above abdomen. Applewhite claimed to have been stabbed by Travis Blackmon after an altercation between the two.
Authorities determined that Blackmon was at the house of his ex-girlfriend when Applewhite, Jr. and his father James Applewhite, Sr., 66, drove up to the home.
Applewhite, Jr. reportedly got out of the vehicle and began chasing Blackmon with a large metal flashlight. The chase ended when Blackmon fell and was attacked by Applewhite, Jr. with the flashlight.
During the attack, Blackmon used a knife to defend himself. Blackmon claimed he was also kicked several times by James Applewhite, Sr.
Both Blackmon and Applewhite, Jr. were taken to an area hospital and were treated and later released. Blackmon received multiple injuries to his head, hands and wrist with some fracturing.
Applewhite, Sr. and Applewhite, Jr. were arrested and charged with assault in the first degree and armed criminal action. Applewhite, Sr.'s bond is $15,000 cash or surety and Applewhite, Jr.'s bond is $25,000 cash or surety.
