Big Game Recipes – Cheese & Bacon Football

Cheese balls are often found on snack tables around the holidays, but this one has gridiron flair. Made with cream cheese, bacon and green onion –  this football-shaped cheese spread  gives your game day spread a catered look with very little time or effort on your part! It also tastes really, really good!

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound bacon (fully cooked & finely chopped)
  • 2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese (softened)
  • 3 Tablespoons Mayonnaise
  • 1 Green onion diced
  • 1 cup finely chopped pecans
  • 1 ounce Mozzarella cheese (optional)

Directions:

Pan fry the bacon until crispy. Place bacon on dry paper towels to absorb as much grease as possible while cooling. Chop or break bacon into small pieces.

In a mixing bowl combine softened cream cheese, mayonnaise and green onions. Use hand mixer to blend until all ingredients are well combined.

Use a spatula to roughly form a ball in the mixing bowl. Scoop ball out onto a piece of wax paper, and form the ball into a football shape (you can perfect your shape later, you just want it to be roughly the general shape of a football at this point).

Loosely wrap wax paper around the cheese football and refrigerate for 3 to 4 hours.

Once cheese ball as firmed, pour chopped pecans onto another piece of wax paper and roll the football in the pecans until ball is coated.

Slice mozzarella cheese into thin slices and press onto the top of the ball to create the look of football laces.

Serve with crackers or crusty French bread.
