WAYNE COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - A Wayne County, Missouri man is in serious condition after he was involved in a car crash on Tuesday.
Officials say Wayne County Eastern District Commissioner James "Bill" Hovis, 70, was driving east on Highway 8 in Washington County, at around 12:50 p.m. Tuesday when he fell asleep at the wheel.
Police say Hovis' car drifted over the center line, into the path of another car, driven by Kyle A. Doss, 29, of Steelville, Mo.
Hovis' car was struck nearly head-on.
Hovis was transported by helicopter to Mercy Hospital in St. Louis for serious injuries, including to his leg.
Doss was not reported to be injured.
