PERRY COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - A total of three high school students were cited after a crash in Perry County, Ill. on Tuesday evening.
According to the Perry County Sheriff's Office, 18-year-old Sierra Benbrook was traveling along White Walnut Road with four other people when she got distracted.
At that time, she drove off the road into a ditch, crossed the intersection of Park Road and hit a utility pole.
Benbrook suffered major, but non-life threatening injuries during the crash.
All five were taken to a local hospital.
The sheriff's office says four of the students attended Pinckneyville High School and another was a student at Herrin High School.
Benbrook is facing charges for failing to reduce speed, reckless driving, and operating a vehicle with expired registration.
Two of the passengers were ticketed for not wearing their seat belts.
