FIRST ALERT: Cold weather is back; expect a breezy, cloudy day

It is Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2016.

First Alert Weather Outlook:

Our taste of spring is done for now. Today we will return to reality with a chilly, breezy, mostly cloudy day. You won't need the umbrella, but Brian says you should probably grab the heavier coats. You can expect highs to only reach the 40s. FIRST ALERT: even colder weather is on its way.

Making Headlines:

Accidental shooting: A boy, 7, was shot in a south St. Louis apartment overnight, after police say a resident in the apartment below accidentally fired a gun through the ceiling. The boy was taken to the hospital but is expected to be okay.

Under investigation: A person was injured in a shooting in Mount Vernon, Illinois. According to Mt. Vernon Police Chief Chris Deichman, one person went to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Assessing damage: Parts of the south will be surveying tornado and severe storm damage today. A strong storm tracked across parts of Alabama, Mississippi and Tennessee, damaging a federal corrections institute, homes and power lines along the way.

Falsely convicted: A new report shows 13 people in Illinois falsely convicted of crimes were exonerated last year. Illinois had the most number of homicide exonerations, followed by New York with nine.

What's trending:

Shelling out the cash: If you're planning a wedding for 2016, your bank account will likely take a big hit. That's because a new report from Thumbtack shows the average cost of a wedding is up 20 percent this year.

More than half of the 17 people killed when a tourist boat sank on a Branson lake were members of the same Indiana family, and they likely wouldn't have been on the ill-fated trip but for a ticket mix-up.
