CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - More and more restaurants in Cape Girardeau are saying "no" to cigarette smoke.
The state of Missouri currently allows business owners to make their own choice.
While there is no clear push for businesses to go smoke free, businesses say it was an easy choice to make.
Broussard's, a Cape Girardeau mainstay for the past 30 years, made the switch on Jan. 26.
But they aren't the only restaurant in Cape Girardeau keeping the smoke outside.
Stuart Matthews, the owner of Minglewood Brewery, said he never considered allowing smoke in his restaurant.
"I smoked for 18 years, and I quit, and didn't want to particularly be smelling like smoke anymore so I opened a business that was smoke free," Matthews said.
Beef O'Brady's Sports Bar doesn't allow smoking in any of their restaurants.
Beef O'Brady's customers say they appreciate it.
Many areas in Missouri have banned smoking in restaurants and bars, but Cape Girardeau gives business owners the right to choose.
Both Minglewood and Beef O'Brady's allow smoking in their patio seating so if you want to smoke, you can go outside.
And with more non-smoking restaurants popping up in Cape Girardeau, Matthews said it doesn't seem to be a problem for his patrons.
The Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce said they don't have current plans to move towards a smoking ban.
It has been put up for a vote before, but did not pass.
