CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Four Cape Girardeau police officers were honored at Monday night’s city council meeting for saving the lives of two alleged burglary suspects.

Patrolmen Templeton, Newton, Yoder, and Alsdorf were part of a chase involving the suspects on January 27.

As the pair tried to get away, they crashed the truck they were in on a winding and hilly road in Cape Girardeau County.

When officers got to the truck, it was on fire and getting close to the cab of the truck.

So, the officers jumped in and pulled the suspects to safety.

According to a post on Facebook by the city, “In that moment, when life and death was being decided by mere seconds, these four officers - without hesitation - laid their own lives on the line for the benefit of other human beings.”
