1 arrested after man shot in buttocks in Du Quoin, IL

DU QUOIN, IL (KFVS) - One man was arrested and another man is injured after a shooting in Du Quoin early Saturday morning.

The Du Quoin Police Department received a call from the Sparta Police Department around 8:16 a.m. Saturday about a shooting that happened around 3 a.m. in Du Quoin.

Police believe Maurice M. Hollingsworth, 33, of Steeleville and Jacob A. Romay, 27, of Prairie De Rocher got into a verbal fight in the parking lot of 749 North Division Street in Du Quoin around 3 a.m.

Police say Romay fired two shots, one that hit Hollingsworth and another into Hollingsworth's vehicle.

Hollingsworth was taken to the Sparta Hospital with a gunshot wound to the left buttocks area.

Du Quoin Police Chief Jamie Ellermeyer said there were no reports of shots fired in the area at the time of the shooting.

Romay was arrested on a charge of aggravated battery with a firearm. He was taken to the Perry County Jail where hi posted $5,000 cash bond and was released.

Du Quoin and Sparta officers investigated the shooting. The investigation continues.
