A man is behind bars after reporting to police there was a bomb at the Du Quoin Walmart.

William Howard Swanson Jr., 57, was arrested for disorderly conduct after police say he made the bomb threat for personal reasons.

The Du Quoin Police Department reports it received a 911 call from Swanson around 5:41 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 31.

At that time, authorities evacuated Walmart and set a safety perimeter around the building.

Investigators with the Secretary of State Police Explosives department made a thorough sweep of the business.

Walmart was declared all clear at 8:33 p.m.

Swanson was arrested and transported to the Perry County Jail.

Chief Jamie Ellermeyer said the incident remains under investigation and believes more charges could come.
