RANDOLPH COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - A woman was killed and six people injured in a crash near Red Bud, Ill. Sunday night.
Dennis J. Malott, 63, of Red Bud was driving a 2004 Ford Explorer eastbound on Route 3 when he crossed into the westbound lanes around 8 p.m. Sunday and hit two vehicles, according to Illinois State Police.
It happened three-tenths of a mile east of the Great River Road west of Red Bud.
Robert W. Guerra, 36, of Waterloo, Ill. was driving a 2014 GMC Acadia westbound when his vehicle was struck. He was taken to a hospital with incapacitating injuries.
Melanie D. Guerra, 34, of Waterloo was a passenger. She was killed in the crash.
A baby, 4-year-old boy, 7-year-old boy, and a 10-year-old girl were riding in the GMC. They were taken to a local hospital with non-incapacitating injuries.
A 17-year-old girl from Waterloo was driving a 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer eastbound on Route 3 behind the GMC. The driving was uninjured. A 17-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy who were passengers were also injured.
Police say the Ford struck the GMC in its right front quarter panel area, continued past the GMC in the westbound lane, and struck the Mitsubishi.
All three vehicles had to be towed from the scene. Route 3 was shut down for five and a half hours.
Malott was taken to a local hospital with non-incapacitating injuries. He was charged with operating an uninsured motor vehicle and improper lane usage.
