CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - A hip hop artist is coming to the Show Me Center, but it's not for a concert.
Common, whose real name is Lonnie Lynn, Jr.,will be the guest speaker at this year's Michael Davis Lecture.
The annual event recognizes achievements by African-Americans in the media and honors Michael Davis.
Davis, a 25-year-old mass communications student, died after a hazing incident in 1994.
Common is a triple threat in media. In addition to his career in music, he's also written books and appeared in feature films.
In 2015, he and John Legend received a Golden Globe Award and an Oscar for Best Original Song for "Glory," a song featured in the civil rights drama "Selma."
Common's presentation at Southeast, entitled "Greatness," will be held on February 23 at 7:30 p.m. at the Show Me Center.
Tickets can be purchases online or at the Show Me Center box office.
