CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - "Exhibiting Excellence," the 38th annual high school art exhibition, an invitational juried art exhibit will be held Sunday, February 7 inside the Rosemary Berkel and Harry L. Crisp II Museum at Southeast Missouri State University's River Campus.
The unveiling will be held from 2-4 p.m., with an awards ceremony beginning at 3 p.m.
Open to 11th and 12th grade students in southeast Missouri and southern Illinois, the exhibit will be on display through March 13, and admission is free.
"Student works are selected by their teachers who then submit the works for jurying. This exhibition is open to the 26 counties the museum serves," said Peter Nguyen, Museum director.
First, second and third place awards will be presented in the categories of sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, mixed media, photography, fibers, drawing and painting. Additionally, there is an Art Academy Award and Best of Show Award. The recipient of the Art Academy Award will receive a scholarship to attend one of the University's Summer Art Academy workshops. The winner of the Best of Show Award will receive a $1,000 scholarship to attend Southeast Missouri State University as an art major.
Juror for this years exhibit will be Shannon Duffy.
Duffy received a Master of Fine Arts from Arizona State University and is currently an adjunct professor at West Kentucky Community and Technical College and Murray State University. She owns and operates Helicopter Studios where she designs and creates jewelry and children's toys.
Duffy has also been a Visiting Lecturer in Art Education at Murray State University for two years and organized the 31st Annual Kentucky Regional High School Art Exhibition.
