Carbondale man accused of assault, running from officers

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - A Carbondale, Illinois man is accused of assault and running from police on Monday, January 25.

Kiondre L. Fitzgerald, was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, aggravated assault, no firearm owners identification card and obstructing a police officer.

According to Carbondale police, they responded to a complaint of an unlawful use of a weapon at around 2:21 p.m. in the 1000 block of East Main Street. Police say someone in a car allegedly pointed a gun at another  person.

Shortly after, police say they saw the suspect vehicle and pulled it over near North Illinois Avenue and West Jackson Street. The suspect was identified as Fitzgerald. He allegedly had a handgun.

According to police, Fitzgerald ignored the commands of the officers, got out of the vehicle and ran away. After a short chase, police caught Fitzgerald a few blocks away.

He was treated and released from a Carbondale hospital for minor injuries and taken to the Jackson County Jail.

The investigation is ongoing.
