Regional Energy Forum at SIU focuses on electricity issues and trends

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - The fourth Regional Energy Forum will take place at SIU's Morris Library Friday, February 12th at 11:30 a.m.

This year's forum will focus on Campus and Community Electricity: Current Issues and Trends.

Four panelists will give presentations on specific areas and then follow up with questions from the moderator and the audience.

The panelists include:

  • Justin Harrell, Electrical Engineer at SIU’s Physical Plant
  • Leonard Hopkins, VP Fuel, Environment, and Safety at Southern Illinois Power Cooperative
  • Jeff Harrmann, Managing Partner at Affordable Gas and Electric LLC
  • Brad Richards, Executive VP at Illinois Oil and Gas Association

The panel hopes to provide insight into questions such as:

  • How are we getting and using electricity on the SIU campus and regionally?
  • What is happening to electricity costs with all the pending new regulations and market swings?
  • What natural resources in southern Illinois are providing most of our electricity currently?
  • Can we expect our electricity prices to go up?
