SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) -

The Sikeston Department of Public Safety is investigating a homicide scene after two people were found dead.

Captain Mike Williams said a white female and white male have died.

It happened at an apartment at 1206 Lawrence in Sikeston.

According to DPS, at around 4:43 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 19, they received a call for a well-being check on a couple at the apartment. The request was from a friend, who said they had been unable to contact the couple since Saturday.

Police say the initial responding officers were not able to contact the couple. They say all of the apartment's doors and windows were locked and the couple's car was also parked in front.

According to police, further information and facts led the officer to forcibly enter the apartment. Once inside, they say they found a woman and a man dead in the living room.

The scene was secured and held for investigation.

A joint investigation involving Sikeston's Criminal Investigation Unit and New Madrid County coroner, determined the woman, 26-year-old Candace M. Baum, was the victim of a domestic homicide.

They determined the man, 58-year-old James E. Wilder committed suicide.

Police say both deaths involved a firearm.

The investigation is still ongoing and the Sikeston DPS is asking anyone with information to contact them at 573-471-4711.

More than half of the 17 people killed when a tourist boat sank on a Branson lake were members of the same Indiana family, and they likely wouldn't have been on the ill-fated trip but for a ticket mix-up.
