MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) -

A woman is now facing DUI and wanton endangerment charges after she was allegedly driving under the influence and crashed her car in McCracken County Kentucky, injuring a passenger.

On Sunday at 6:01 a.m., the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office responded to a car accident on Interstate 24 eastbound around the 1 mile marker.

Officials say Brenda Kalwei, 38, of Independence, Mo., was driving when she swerved to miss what she thought was an object in the roadway.

Kalwei lost control of her vehicle, striking the concrete barrier separating the east and west bound lanes of traffic.

Kalwei’s passenger, Deborah Kalwei, 58, also of Independence, was taken to an area hospital for treatment of non-incapacitating injuries.

Investigation revealed that Brenda was driving under the influence and driving without a license.

She was also charged with wanton endangerment, since her passenger sustained injuries from the accident.

The McCracken County Sheriff’s Department was assisted on scene by Mercy Regional and Speedys towing service.
