CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - A man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for killing his stepdaughter.
According to Cape Girardeau County Prosecutor Chris Limbaugh, Ricky Schweain received the maximum sentenced possible.
He was convicted of second degree murder.
According to the probable cause statement, Schweain told deputies he pointed his pistol at his stepdaughter, Melissa Luttrell, and said when she grabbed it, the gun went off, shooting her.
Luttrell was treated on scene, but later died from a gunshot wound to the chest.
According to the statement, Schweain said he "knew what he had done, was sorry for what he had done, but knew that he had messed up."
