Woman, child injured in crash on IL Rte. 3 in Randolph Co.

RANDOLPH COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -

A woman and a six-year-old boy were injured in a crash on Illinois Route 3 in Randolph County, Illinois on Thursday, January 14.

According to Illinois State Police, just before 5 p.m., Matthew A. Hornbostel, 29, of Effingham, Ill., was driving a 2012 Chevy pickup south on South Prairie Road. Jamie L. Simpson, 39, of Evansville, Ill., was a 2007 Ford Taurus driving northbound on Illinois Route 3.

Police say Hornbostel did not stop at the stop sign and pulled out in front of Simpson. The pickup hit the car on the passenger side, pushing it off of the road and into a ditch.

Horbostel was not injured, but police say he was being charged with failure to stop at a stop sign. They say additional charges could be pending after further investigation.

Simpson had minor injuries and police say she refused treatment at the scene.

Simpson's passenger, a six-year-old boy, had incapacitating injuries and was taken to an area hospital.

Traffic on Illinois Route 3 was being rerouted around the area by Randolph County sheriff's deputies during the investigation and scene clean up.
