MARION, IL (KFVS) -

Firefighters battled an early morning fire at a business in Marion, Ill. on Wednesday.

Crews were dispatched to John Brown's on the Square around 2:52 a.m.

The state fire marshal was on the scene to investigate Wednesday morning. No one was injured in the fire.

John Brown’s on the Square has been open since 2007.

Derek Cook bartended at John Brown’s since 2010. He said he can’t believe the bar is gone.

Cook said he and the Tuesday night crew left the bar around 2 a.m.

He said dozens of pieces of memorabilia and sentimental items by the owner are destroyed and can never be replaced.

Cook said it was a small crew, five people including the owner worked there.

Cook said he’s confident the owner will rebuild. He said John Brown and his family put everything they had into the bar.

No word yet on what caused the fire.
