SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) - A Sikeston, man has been arrested for drug charges after a traffic stop led to a search by police, who found what appeared to be methamphetamine.
Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter says that a deputy conducted a vehicle stop on Davis Boulevard and State Highway Y, in Sikeston, for a traffic violation.on Saturday.
James A. Groves Jr., 30, of Sikeston, Missouri, was identified as the driver.
It was discovered that he has an active arrest warrant out of Cape Girardeau Police Department for failure to appear on traffic charges.
Scott County's K9 was deployed and alerted to the smell of drugs coming from the vehicle.
During the search, deputies found a container hidden inside a cooler cup under the driver's seat.
Inside the container, deputies found a glass smoking pipe, with residue, and a plastic bag with a white crystal like substance.
The smoking pipe and the white crystal like substance field-tested positive for methamphetamine.
Groves was arrested and transported to the Scott County Jail for the active Cape Girardeau warrant.
He has also been charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Groves remains in custody at the Scott County Jail. Bond was set by the court at $15,000 cash or surety.
