JEFFERSON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - A 23-year-old Mt. Vernon, Ill. man was airlifted to a hospital in Indiana with major injuries following a crash on I-57 in Jefferson County on Thursday afternoon.
According to Illinois State Police, Timothy Dotson-Napier, was in the back seat of the car 20-year-old Natashia Dyer, of Opdyke, Ill., was driving.
Travis Trotter, a 20-year-old from Opdyke, Ill., was riding in the front passenger seat.
The three people were traveling northbound on I-57 near milepost 88, when their vehicle drifted off the side of the road to the left into the median.
At that time, ISP reports Dyer overcorrected the steering to the right, causing the car to travel across both lanes of I-57 off the right side of the Interstate.
Dyer then hit a tree, causing Dotson-Napier to be ejected through a window.
Dotson-Napier was originally taken to a hospital in Mt. Vernon, and was later airlifted to Evansville, Indiana with major injuries.
Neither Dyer nor Trotter were injured in the crash.
Dyer was given a ticket for improper lane usage and operating an uninsured vehicle.
The car Dyer was driving suffered major damage and had to be towed from the scene.
Illinois State Police say the crash remains under investigation.
