DAVIESS COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - Kentucky State Police is investigating after a man was shot and killed by an officer during a home invasion investigation.
According to KSP, the Daviess County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to a burglary in progress at 12:11 p.m. on Thursday, January 7 in the 100 block of Boothfield Road.
The caller reported an intruder with a gun who ran off.
Police say area schools were notified and began their lock down procedures.
Officers from the Owensboro Police Department, Kentucky State Police and Daviess County Sheriff's Office began searching the area. About 15 minutes later, units found and began following the suspect until more units arrived to help.
According to KSP, the man was given numerous verbal commands to surrender.
As he knelt to comply, police say an officer took a position to use a taser.
When the suspect allegedly raised a .45 caliber handgun, which had been concealed, and pointed in the direction of officers, KSP reports another officer fired a patrol rifle and hit the man.
The suspect, later identified as Kenneth Clay, 34 of Owensboro, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The gun he used was reported stolen from Evansville, Indiana.
Police say this is an ongoing investigation.
