Our countdown of outstanding Heartland football players has reached number 2.

Salukis running back Brandon Jacobs was picked in the fourth round of the 2005 draft by the New York Giants.

He went on to help lead the Giants to Super Bowl wins in 2007 and 2011.

Jacobs' career totals included more than 5,000 yards rushing and a Giants record 60 rushing touchdowns.

He also spent a brief time with the 49ers before retiring with New York in 2013.

    Mookie Betts lined a two-run double off the left-field wall with two outs in the ninth inning, capping a three-run rally that lifted the Boston Red Sox to a 5-4 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday night.
