Alexander Co. residents begin clean-up efforts despite lingering floodwaters

There is still flooding in Alexander County, but it is slowly going down. However, many residents like Shirley Dunn have to use a boat to get into their homes.

Dunn owns four homes in Olive Branch.

The home she lives in now is elevated, so she and her husband stayed dry. However, Dunn's other three properties flooded again.

She went into one of the vacant homes for the first time on Wednesday, since the flooding hit. When she went inside, she was expecting the worst but was surprised when she got inside.

"It's washed up from somewhere. Gives you some idea of the water. This is one of our houses. This is one that will probably be condemned. [Actually], maybe I don't have a $18,000 loss," Dunn said.

Dunn is one of the many people still waiting on buyout money from 2011. After the visit from senator Durbin. She said she still isn't hopeful the government will come through.

People cleaning up in Alexander County are already worrying about possible spring flooding and hope the levee is repaired before the anymore floods. However, that’s another question that remains to be answered.
