ALEXANDER COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -

The Illinois State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of a fire in Alexander County that burned two structures.

The fire started around 4:30 afternoon, involving a home and a pool house.

The owner of the home, Wayne Coleson says he moved out of the house during the 2011 flood, and it's remained empty ever since.

Coleson says the house has been looted and vandalized several times in the last few years.

Although Coleson pays taxes on it, he isn't allowed to live in the house or insure it because he accepted a $126,000 FEMA buyout following the flood of 2011.

"From the threat of just moving in and out and in and out and in and out, so we accepted the buyout," Coleson said. "And I thought it would come on through. Now here in 2016, and yet we haven't gotten anything."

Firefighters say the utilities were not turned on at the home when the fire started.

The SEMO Red Cross reports volunteers have responded to the house fire to help with any needs.

No injuries have been reported.
