Sedgewickville woman killed in crash in Bollinger Co., daughter in hospital

BOLLINGER COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

A woman was killed and a teen was injured when they hit a deer while driving along Highway 72 in Bollinger County on Monday evening.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident happened about three miles east of Patton as Hope Thompson, 49, of Sedgewickville, and Rhiannon Thomson, 16, of Sedgewickville, were traveling westbound.

The highway patrol reports the animal came through the windshield, hitting both of the women inside.

The Bollinger County Deputy Coroner said Hope Thompson, the passenger, was killed at the scene.

Rhiannon was seriously injured and taken to a local hospital. 

Rhiannon is a member of the girls basketball team at her school. The team actually had a game on Monday at 4 p.m., the day of the crash..

Andy Comstock, Superintendent of Schools for Meadow Heights, said grief counselors were made available to talk to the kids at the school today.

This marks the first deadly accident in the southeast Missouri region in 2016.
