Gov. Nixon meets with local officials in Cape Girardeau Saturday

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon was in Cape Girardeau on Saturday, Jan. 1 to meet with local officials and coordinate flood preparation and response.

The meeting was a part of the state’s ongoing response to record high river levels and flooding.  The Mississippi River is expected to crest above the record set during the Great Flood of 1993.

Nixon said he believes the worst is over for many counties, but plans to keep emergency workers in place.

“We're going to continue to enforce the law, we're going to continue to be here to make sure we fight this flood till it's over, and we're going to be here when it's done," Gov. Nixon said. "We're not just here for now we're here till this thing is done, and it's cleaned up."
